When people move, they tend to throw out a lot of “stuff.” Sometimes that “stuff” is food that could be given to a family in need rather than thrown away. Please help support our hunger relief efforts by making every move an opportunity to feed a family in need
Old Country Van Lines is proudly committed to Move for Hunger, a non-profit that partners with moving companies to pick up unwanted, unopened food during the moving process and deliver it to local food banks. Since making our pledge to Move for Hunger, we have dropped nearly 500 pounds of food to our local food banks!
What is Move for Hunger? Move For Hunger is a non-profit organization that works with moving companies across the country to pick up unwanted, unopened food from those who are relocating and deliver it to local food banks across the country. To date, Move For Hunger is working with over 110 movers nationwide and has collected over 46,000 pounds of food. With the support of its partners, Move For Hunger is turning the average food drive into one of the nation’s largest, year-round service programs. For more information or to find out how you can help support Move For Hunger, visit www.MoveForHunger.org and make an online donation to help our hunger relief efforts.
How does it work? It’s easy! When people move, they often throw away unused pantry items. As part of the Move for Hunger program, Old Country Van Lines encourages customers to donate these goods instead. Customers who participate will place their items in a moving box that Old Country Van Lines will collect on moving day. Each month, Old Country Van Lines will deliver all the boxes collected to the local food banks.
Why do people throw away pantry items? Moving estimates are based on weight and canned goods are heavy. Believe it or not, it can cost more to move pantry items than it does to buy new ones at destination. Instead of throwing these items away, please give them to a family in need!
Where will my donation go? Old Country Van Lines donates all foods to the Food Bank of Delaware in New Castle, DE and the Center for Food Action in New Jersey in Englewood, NJ.
Why bring Move for Hunger to Delaware? According to the latest Feeding America studies, more than 241,000 people living in Delaware receive emergency food assistance every year. Forty-four percent of those in need are children. With times getting tighter, these numbers are dramatically increasing. Old Country Van Lines is proud to be the first Delaware mover to join the program.
Why join Move for Hunger in New Jersey? According to the latest Feeding America studies, more than 850,000 people living in New Jersey receive emergency food assistance every year. Forty percent of those in need are children. Old Country Van Lines has called New Jersey its home for 125 years. It’s our responsibility to give back to our community.
